Keeping a Dream Journal

In Dream

Black and enduring separation
I share equally with you.
Why weep? Give me your hand,
Promise me you will come again.
You and I are like high mountains
and we can't move closer.
Just send me word,
At midnight sometime through the stars.
. . .

What are our dreams? Are they ideas we play in our minds while we sleep, or messages from somewhere else? Perhaps they are travels that we venture forth that in real life we dare not step Or maybe dreams are a meeting place where those close to you come to wander.. Whatever dreams mean to you, each moment can be meaningful and worth trying to remember.

Sometimes you get the greatest insight from your very mind. Your dreams can open pathways to yourself. On a personal note, my dreams are often messages that Im learning how to pay attention to. (sometimes I have trouble remembering in the morning too when the alarm clock is too loud) I keep a journal of my dream travels and I look to the meaning and how it relates to my reality. There are messages that my subconscious gives me that I dont hear during the day and those thoughts often kick start once I relax and open up to new ideas. (I can be stubborn at times) 

Ive decided to put together a few ideas and hints for you to remember and keep track of your dreams.

To start, there are some that say they never dream. It just may be that you dont take the time to let your mind focus on that part of you. You do dream.. you just have not learned how to remember yet.

Before you fall asleep, you have to tell yourself that you are going to remember your dreams. It might take a few days for your subconscious to get that message through as some of us do have a hard time remembering dreams, but be patient and keep trying.

Keep a journal or a pad of paper and a pen right next to your bed so when you wake up you can write down anything you remember. Dont wait! If you move around too much after you wake up you could loose the images. Dont worry if you think something is too strange to write down, this is your book and not meant for anyone else. (I remember years ago that I was nervous about writing my dreams I thought What if someone reads this??? and it scared me from keeping an accurate journal.) I thought that if someone read what I had wrote they may think I was silly. But dont worry about that, this is only for you.

Right when you wake up write down everything you can remember about your dream. Keep track of people, images, thoughts, moods, settings, themes, your role in the dream or anything else important. Sometimes you can even draw a picture of what you saw if you cant put the thoughts into words.

There are many methods you can use to interpret your dreams. You can pick up a book with meanings, do research on the internet, talk with others who are open to sharing your dreams or even self anaylize what you have seen.

Your personal dream journal could be a great book! It is there for you to go over moments in time in your past and even to help to look for answers for your future.

You might want to take the time to make this a special book by decorating the cover or you may even want to make special pages with pictures. This is all about you - so personalize it in any way you wish.

Years to come you might treasure this as its a personal journey saved in words and pictures of what your life was like.

Good dreams to you!
